Introduction to Magnetoencephalography (MEG)

Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is a completely noninvasive imaging technique used to measure the tiny magnetic fields produced by electrical activity in the human brain. Measurements are performed with extremely sensitive sensors called SQUIDS. A state-of-the-art MEG system has about 100-300 SQUIDS that are contained in a helmet-shaped dewar filled with liquid helium.

A state-of-the-art MAGNES 3600 WH MEG system from 4D-Neuroimaging has been installed at the CCNi. The MAGNES 3600 WH features 248 magnetometer sensors that provide full cortical coverage. The system has been delivered with a full range of stimulation and measurement devices (besides standard auditory, visual and electrical stimulation) including natural tactile stimulation with braille cells, laser stimulation, eye tracking.
